Clearing Your DiaryNatural Remedies

Posted by Mayka Fri, March 02, 2018 18:49:22

What a beautiful day! Right? We don't tend to think so if we're stuck on M1 buried under a ton of snow, in an endless queue of cars.

Maybe this is a final effort of a Mother Nature, to give us a last gentle nudge to go back to basics, retreat into your cosy home with a cuppa, and re-evaluate, which things are really important in your life.

Cleansing, clearing and de-cluttering is an essential part of our daily life. We should regularly pay attention to our physical, spiritual and also emotional hygiene. It goes without saying, that we all shower, brush our teeth and keep our homes clean and tidy, as much as the pets and kids allow. But what about all the other aspects of our life that might need looking into once in a while?

We go through the motions of New Year's detox, spring cleaning, wardrobe clear-outs and pre-Christmas cleaning almost automatically, because we are kind of expected to. But what about these shocking weather surprises that mess up our plans and put everything on hold?

This time I have accepted it, and actually embraced all the unexpected extra time it has given me. The Beast From the East has made me realize I was long overdue a big diary detox. As usual, I've had a diary bursting with clients all weekend, and so many different events clashing and overlapping in all the spare times, and guess what! Everything got cancelled.

At first I had felt a sense of responsibility and a strong urge to deal with it, and then it dawned on me. ''Just have a break for once!''. I have printed out all the course material for my training in London, cooked a dinner at 9 in the morning, had a lovely breakfast, and crawled back into bed with a nice book and a hot cup of a chamomile tea.

Blog image

After a nice few hours of an unexpected time off, I have gone back to that diary. All of that stuff that was absolutely crucial and put me under so much pressure has suddenly disappeared, and the world didn't come to an end. I have still served all my clients and honoured all of my commitments, some with delays, but hey, we're allowed that when it snows. The most important part of the learning for me was that such a large part of my ''To Do List'' was an unnecessary fluff distracting us from our own quality time and creating an illusion of stress and pressure.

It's funny how everything is so much clearer when the world is all bright white, slow and quiet. My learning from this experience, don't let the madness of the world to pull you in, and protect your time you have to give. There surely are people in your life that deserve it more, and after all, it will all work out anyway.

Best Way To Enjoy Your TreatmentWhat's On

Posted by Mayka Wed, May 31, 2017 09:23:50

So we have a new month, a new beginning, beautiful new therapy room, and finally, the whole new level of relaxation! The move has been hectic and at times outright stressful, but it was definitely worth it. I can't wait to welcome you to the new era of Maya's Healing Hands and offer you your favourite treatment in a new massage heaven.

Blog image

Now let me help you make the most out of your treatment. Here is a list of 10 best pieces of advice to enjoy your treatment to the fullest potential.

1. Prepare and research

Make sure you know where you're going, where is the nearest car park and have some change ready, think about time of the day and traffic patterns. It is going to save you being all stressed out and sweaty coming to your clinic

2. Wear comfortable clothes

There is nothing worse than feeling constricted for an hour, or worrying about creasing your best work skirt.

3. Be 10 minutes early

The best piece of advice I guess. Aiming to be a few minutes early gives you a great advantage, you have a bit of spare time to get lost, stuck in traffic or deal with unexpected circumstances. This way you can stay calm and collected even before your treatment, and it is much easier for you to relax and enjoy yourself.

4. Silence your phone

Even the awareness of your phone not being switched to the silent mode can nag in the back of your mind, and you spend more time than necessary thinking about what if someone rings you, or who are you expecting an email from. Get rid of it and clear your mind!

5. Drop your jewellery

You don't want to feel like you are being strangled by your necklace or get your wrist watch soaked in oil. Plus if too much of your body is covered up by jewellery and accessories, you are really missing out, because your therapist might be avoiding the areas to protect your bling from getting dirty.

6. Use the bathroom

Just make sure you are totally comfortable before your treatment starts. You don't want to get up and go halfway through the treatment or tense up and hold on till the end. You are doing this to relax, so don't ruin it for yourself.

7. Don't help your therapist

We are all used to being in control, and having a treatment, you might be tempted to lift your arms or legs and actively take part in the stretches and bends, but that is not necessarily helping. your muscles and joins get the most benefit if they relax completely and let the treatment do it's best.

8. Share your feelings

We are all different and perceive the same event in slightly different ways. If the towel is pressing into your forehead, or your left shoulder is too sensitive, it can all be adjusted. There is always a ton of towels and blankets to keep you warm, so there is no need for you to freeze to death. Some of this invisible stuff is so easy to correct, so don't waste your treatment by not being 100% comfortable.

9. Book your next one

You are more likely to stick to your goals if you plan ahead. It doesn't matter if it is next week, next month or in 6 weeks time, just go with what works best for you. With the next treatment booked in, you will have something to look forward to and even more unpleasant chores will seem easier, as you have a great reward coming up soon.

10. Ease into the rest of the day

Try to plan ahead and do all the unpleasant tasks before your treat. You don't want to rush into the stress and madness straight after you have had a lovely relaxing treatment. Fill the rest of the day with all the pleasant and fun things to keep you in the positive mood, and you will be more likely to bring the good feeling into the next day, or maybe even week.

Happy Women's Day!Seasonal

Posted by Mayka Wed, March 08, 2017 14:18:31

Today I kept seeing lots and lots of lovely messages, inspiring pictures and quotes celebrating International Women's Day from early morning. It really is heartwarming, as there is normally so much tension and negativity in the news. It does feel good seeing people still find reasons to love and appreciate each other.
Men and women are like two separate species, that are probably not even meant to understand each other completely, however we just can't imagine living in a world without the other.

One of the empowering quotes about women has made me stop and think for a while. It said: 'A woman is like a teabag - you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water.' Now why do you think this is?
Loving caring compassion of women brings this world as much value as logical persistent determination of men, while it rarely asks for credit, and often goes unnoticed. Maybe it is our inherited maternal instinct that just wants to nurture and support everyone around us. Maybe we are happy enough being a support team for our loved ones, we take their dreams and aspirations as our own ones, and celebrate their victories as our own.
But when things start going pear-shaped, we shake off all the inhibitions, storm into the armoury, and finally get on with things.

That moment when we know what we're fighting for (or what we're protecting), we suddenly know exactly what to do and how to do it. This big WHY usually isn't anything to do with money, prestige or credit. You would always find someone close to your heart being in danger, threat to the family or danger of losing connection in a way.

Now let's use this to our advantage, let's get the clear image of what we want and need for our loved ones, how our lives should look, and let's get going now. I mean now! Let's not wait until we're against the wall. If we wait another day, we are literally steeling a day of our amazing brilliant future from our loved ones. Now we wouldn't want to do that. right?

Well, let me wish to all the men, women and children lots and lots of feminine love that makes the whole world warmer and brighter <3

Hello From The Other SideWhat's On

Posted by Mayka Thu, December 08, 2016 03:00:40

Hello there!
You might be wondering, where have I been for the past half a year. Well, I am really sorry to have neglected my sharing and caring duties, I have kind of gone into a total overload mode. When you want things to work, you tend to do anything and everything, and sometimes way too much of it. That was more or less working all right, until I got a first proper wave of work (the real kind, that I was meant for). Suddenly I ended up in a headless chicken mode, with too many projects started, too many to do lists and too little time to keep the piles shrinking.
So I have dealt with it in my very typical way, just ''set it on fire'' and walked away. Don't panic, not literally. I have just dropped all the non-essential activities, and cracked on with the basics, until I have created comfortable space to stand up, stretch out and look around. It did help, of course, to de-clutter and re-organise my space, as much personal as professional. When you get fed up and act on this impulse, sometimes you lose great stuff that used to work, and that is what happened to my blogging posting and sharing.
The massive de-clutter is over, and we have been through a little bit of a re-branding to keep it fresh for you. You might notice things will be changing in next few weeks, so that we can start the New Year 2017 with a total face-lift from the inside out.
We are back to a lovely system where everything has it's time and place, so you will hear from me a lot more regularly, probably every month. I am kind of scared to promise after these six months of silence, but I will do my best :)
Well, bear with me, hope I keep entertaining and educating you throughout the year, and please, if you do spot something that can be improved, do let me know, I will really appreciate all kinds of creative ideas and gratefully accept any kind of inspiration.
So welcome back to my world, the hard work has paid off, and we can see the blossoms of that effort already :-) and see you soon.

Silky Smooth SummerSeasonal

Posted by Mayka Tue, July 12, 2016 09:08:42

How to have a silky smooth summer:

We haven't quite seen any of the bikini season yet, but it has quite been lingering around for a while now. So what is the best way to get rid of those mini forests we've been successfully hiding all winter?

Both men and women have been trying to come up with the right answers for ages. Let me help and give you a few tips and ideas, and explain the differences between the most popular deforestation methods.

Shave It?

The shaving is quickest and technically least challenging way to get rid of unwanted hair, however, it makes the hair grow a lot stronger, thicker and sharper. That's how you end up having to shave daily if you can't stand the second day stubble. Also if you shave in a rush, or get carried away in your thoughts, you might end up with a bit of a razor burn.

Epilate It?

There is a great range of epilators nowadays, if you are determined to take care of this at home. It gives you a result very similar to waxing, but they require a bit of practice, tears and sweat to master. You are the master of the whole process, so getting to very sensitive areas, it is a lot easier to back out and quit half way through. It can take quite long if you want to sort out all the important areas, as epilators only take a few hairs in one pull, and you might take breaks to do some deep breathing exercises to get over the stinging burning pain.

Wax It?

Waxing is a lot faster, as lots of hairs come out in one go, and your therapist takes charge of the process, so you don't get so much time to brace yourself or change your mind completely. It can be quite painful first couple of times, as we are literally pulling the hairs out of their root follicles, but you do get used to it. After a few sessions you can have a relaxed pleasant conversation with your therapist, without tensing up once.

The result, in comparison to the shave, is a lot more long lasting. You could go for weeks without feeling the urge to sort yourself out, as the new hair growth is a lot sparser, finer and softer.

When To Wax?

Best time to have your waxing appointment would be after you have done your day of work, gym session and sorted out your household chores, as it's not a good idea to get sweat into those sore open follicles. Make sure that your hair is between 0.5 and 1 cm long, as that would be the ideal length to help wax capture and pull it out, rather than having to go over the area a few times, which would only irritate the skin more than necessary.

Blog image

What To Do Next?

Try to stay out of the direct sunlight, as the freshly waxed skin needs a few hours to heal and regain it's ability to protect itself from sunburn, you shouldn't have a hot shower in the next few hours either, as it would only aggravate the inflammation of the skin. Best would be to have your loose comfy clothes ready, and a chilled out evening ahead of you. In the next few days you could introduce a good natural scrub, to prevent in-growing hairs, and keep that skin nice and radiant. And after all, just wait around for the sunshine to show up, to get a chance to showcase that silky smooth you!

Book your appointment now, just in case the summer is really round the corner :)

Hey Children! Time to Party!Seasonal

Posted by Mayka Wed, June 01, 2016 20:05:42

Big things are happening today! We have waved goodbye to a lovely month of May, with all three days of sunshine, and it's time to welcome June.

I guess there isn't a better way then start by celebrating International Day of Children. I have to share some good news with you, we are all somebody's children, so go ahead, give yourself a big hug, and treat yourself to a big ice cream. Or considering the current weather, should I say a cup of hot chocolate?

Well, let's see how do we go about this inner child, that is somewhere deep inside, waiting to get out, and play, explore and enjoy. So many modern successful people forget to enjoy all the great stuff they have in their life, and get carried away with all of the achieving and accomplishing. The question is, is that the important stuff you will talk about, when you're old and grey? Is that what you will be sharing with your grandchildren one day?

Blog image

It is good to work hard, as long as you can play hard. Give a little thought to what your hobbies are, where do you feel happiest, and what would you love to spend more time doing. You might be surprised how much fun and adventure is still hiding behind those responsibilities, bills and chores. Trust me, as soon as you develop a habit of taking a break and enjoying yourself on a regular basis, all the dull and boring bits will lift a bit, and you will feel a bit lighter straight away.

Not too long ago, I lost myself a little bit, started working virtually non-stop, and the inner child had to go sit in the corner, hoping I would sooner or later notice her. Luckily I did, and decided to set some firm rules I wouldn't bend anymore. It is a great feeling to be needed and helpful, but even the best of us have to take a step back to take a deep breath and relax, then, when we are happy, calm and collected, we can serve the world a lot better.

So how do you take a break? You don't need to get on the plane and leave the country to re-energize and de-stress. Just make sure you rest effectively. You can't have a family film night, while responding to work emails. You can't play a game of tennis while responding to phone calls. Just remember, 20 years ago we were free of mobile phones, and it sometimes took us hours to find out when someone tried connecting with us. With the digital overload, we feel we need to be accessible 24/7, no matter where or whom with.

If you divide your attention in too many ways, you end up not doing any of those things properly. It takes you longer, you make more mistakes and people around you feel neglected or even ignored. So decide what you're doing, give it a 100% and then move onto the next bit. And don't forget, the play time is as important as being responsible and grown up :)

Happy Children's Day, let's all have a great evening, and see if we can learn something from the smallest ones :)

Reflexology-A Lot More Than A PamperAlternative Therapies

Posted by Mayka Fri, April 08, 2016 10:26:54

We are all hoping that this long and gloomy winter is almost over now. Mother nature is waking up, blossoming with vibrant colours of spring, and so are we. Getting those cheerful T-shirts out, light jackets and sunglasses, and the bravest of us are looking for our old good sandals.

It is not a secret that the feet are the most neglected part of our body during the winter. They don't get much exposure for almost half a year, most of the times we just make sure they are wrapped up nicely, thick socks and furry boots are No 1 option.

Now the time has come to treat them to a nice long reflexology session, and maybe a shiny pedicure too. You might be surprised to know there is a lot more to Reflexology than a nice pamper treat.

Blog image

Our body is like a perfectly designed machine with millions of neural pathways and electric currents delivering the right information to all the right places. Can you imagine our brain generates enough energy to power a light bulb? These energetic connections create a thick web interconnecting our whole body, making it possible to bring us from thoughts to actions, but also regulate all the ''automatic'' activities in our body, like breathing, sweating, battling infections or digesting food.

We only consciously influence about 6% of our body processes, so the vast majority is happening in the background without our aware contribution. And that is where it all goes wrong. People nowadays are not in touch with their inner self like they used to be, and most of the times our body's warning signals go unnoticed for long periods of time. When the overload gets too much, we start noticing discomfort, symptoms or straight out diseases.

Luckily, with Foot Reflexology we can pick up the areas of blockages and tension a long time before the outbreak of symptoms and pains. Our feet offer us a full body map of every bone, joint and organ in our body, connected into systems and the whole organism as such. Having your ''feet done'' can have double impact on your health and well-being.

For this one hour in your holistic salon, your body gets a gift of speech. By noticing these different sore or sensitive spots on your foot, your therapist will be able to tell you which area or function of your body is being compromised, and you get a second chance to put precautions in place and mend it before it's too late.

Through the foot massage, your brain is also receiving all the signals from the area of concern, and as all the internal organs are connected with the reflex zones on your feet, it does focus its attention not only on the foot where the signal is coming from, but more importantly on the problem area hidden somewhere deep inside your body. This way, your body can stop and reverse so many processes that might otherwise end up in hands of doctors or even surgery.

So before you start your sandal season this year, go and have a good chat with your body, and let it know you are listening, and you want to keep it happy, healthy and beautiful.

To book your appointment call Maya on 07964 722 307, drop us an e-mail on info@mayka.co.uk or head to www.mayka.co.uk to browse around and see if there is anything else you might need to get you in the best shape ever.

Let's March into SpringSeasonal

Posted by Mayka Tue, March 08, 2016 10:26:32

The third month of 2016 is super exciting this year. We have started it with St David's Day, celebrating a Patron Saint of Wales and all of our friends that were born and raised or ever lived in this beautiful part of the world. Maybe a few of us thought of taking a weekend off, spending some precious moments surrounded by sheep and the green hobbit land. And maybe, a few of us did :) Let me share a couple of pictures to motivate you a bit:

Not even a week later, we have celebrated our beautiful mothers. I don't have to remind you how important it is to have your mum close to your heart. We all are big and strong, very independent and grown-up, but when the going really gets tough, there is no better healing than a hug of your protective loving mother. With her by your side, the world is so much nicer place. Some of our friends have taken the biggest step ever and became mothers for the first time, sacrificing their own body privacy and freedom, only regretting one thing, that they haven't done so long time ago. And then there are those who have their adult children leaving the nest for the first time. There is that initial worry about how will they manage without your undivided attention and 24/7 support, but when you settle in and observe these complete human beings that you helped create, you realize how much more you are alike. You have given them the best of you, and now they are carrying your legacy forward, changing the lives of others.

And today we woke up to International Women's Day. This day is not about comparing and competing between the two genders. It is about celebrating the roles of each and every one of us in this society, and the perfect way we complement each other. Behind every successful man, there is a passionate caring woman. There is always the wife, mother, sister or a friend that helps us makes sense of all the cold mechanical and technical world, and discovers a soul of every challenge. With a little more understanding on spiritual and emotional level, the world might have been a lot more peaceful place. We are built a bit differently then you guys, so it's not all flowers and love hearts, so when the hormones bring out the worst in us, please have patience. We are just fighting the emotional s**t storm, trying to bring our world back into a perfect harmony, where everything is good and everyone is happy. Don't try to understand us, just love us. We all need each other to live a happy and fulfilling life, so let's appreciate today the little things we give each other to complete the puzzle :)

Another Patron Saint is coming to see us on 17th March, St. Patrick! We will all be wearing green for a day and drinking Guinness with a shamrock on it. I believe we have a really strong Irish community around here, so I thing you might get a chance to kiss an Irish or see a leprechaun even without getting on a Ryanair plane. Do make the most of it, enjoy the day and night of music, dance and storytelling about the old good times, back in the day.

Voila, the Spring Equinox is almost here! Yes, we made it through the long, gloomy and dark winter. From now on, the days will be longer, the people will be a lot more cheerful, and you will have the whole bucket of energy to enjoy the magic of spring! We still have 12 days to go, so why not get ready. I have already started my spring clean-up, scrubbing, fixing, sorting and chucking, making sure I have enough space in my life to welcome the beautiful sunny energy of spring.

So what else can we fit into March this year? Yes! Even Easter. Easter in Christian tradition is a celebration of a resurrection of Jesus from dead, and it comes after 40 days of fasting (Lent). Most of modern day Christians just decide to give up one or a few of their favourite naughty habits, such as eating meat, chocolate, alcohol, or some extremists decide to give up shopping :) Anyway, it is a good time to cleanse the body before the feast that follows after Easter Sunday. Don't let me get started on Slovak Easter traditions, where all the boys and men get out there, chasing girls and women with a willow whip decorated with lovely colourful ribbons, pouring cold water all over them. Then the thankful women tie more ribbons on their whip and give the guys treats, chocolates, painted eggs or coins, and of course a shot of homemade schnapps. Imagine the guys stumbling home after the tour of the whole city :) Family time follows, lots of food and drinks, cakes and fairytales, and especially the precious few days off.

Whatever you do this March, make it a great time for yourself and your loved ones, as every single festival is there for you to take a moment to appreciate what you have, and all the lovely people who are there to help make your world the best ever. We are not the ones that need to be divided into categories. Parents or children, men or women, Christians or Muslims, fun or boring, we all have something to bring to the table, and these days are merely reminders of our special qualities and superpowers. So embrace and enjoy :)

Love, Light and Healing
